Working Group Minutes/EWG 2017-03-28

From OpenStreetMap Foundation

A meeting of the Engineering Working Group on 28th March 2017 via Mumble.

Attendees

  • Paul Norman
  • Peter Barth
  • Ilya Zverev

Topics

Google Summer of Code is going its way, we have some proposals coming in on the official website. More than a dozen mentors have already registered, so now we wait.

Next week, when the application period ends, Peter will remind mentors to comment on each of the proposals. After that mentors will choose which students they would like to mentor. Google requires only a number from us, not a list.

As for the Top Ten Tasks list, we've got a dozen ideas by now, and that is clearly not enough. We need at least two dozens. Ilya will post a reminder later this week urging everyone to drop their ideas at the etherpad. The deadline is the next EWG meeting, where we will do the initial assessment.

Writing the list by ourselves seems too bold, but discussing it over and over would be too long. We decided to make a draft version out of the ideas on the etherpad, and then put it up for discussion.

Action Items

  • Paul: ask OWG regarding the mailing list for GSoC 2017 mentors.
  • Peter: after 3rd of April, remind mentors to comment the proposals.
  • Everyone: collect their thoughts for the top ten tasks on the etherpad.
  • Ilya: invite more people to submit their task ideas later this week.

Next Meeting

Exactly two weeks from this one: 11th of April, 20:00 UTC.
