Topics

Google Summer of Code 2018

No major status updates regarding GSoC. Most of the potential mentors have been contacted by students, and Paul has published a blog post targeted at students interested in API-related GSoC projects.

The overall impression is that the number of applications has been lower than last year, but the reasons for this are unclear. Our PR so far has been essentially equivalent to what we tried back then. We are planning to publish a blog post on blog.osm.org with the goal of getting students' attention, and use it as a landing page for further efforts on social media platforms. We will discuss the possibility of a press release with CWG.

Thomas asked whether it's a requirement that students are provided with challenges by their potential mentors. The consensus among the participants was that this should not be a requirement.

As per last meeting's decision, GSoC project ideas that need work have been moved to an incubator subpage.

Some potential mentors haven't been added to the mentors' mailing list yet. Requests for subscription should be addressed to Peter.

Top Ten Tasks

The wiki and etherpad drafts for the Top Ten Tasks have been merged by Tordanik and published to the wiki after a request for comments to the EWG list. So far, there has not been any promotion of the new list, but we're planning a mail to the dev@ mailing list, and possibly a blog post in the future.

Next Meeting

To avoid a conflict with the OSMF board meeting on the same day, the next meeting is scheduled for 20:00 London Time rather than UTC.

15th of March, 20:00 London Time
